West Loop · Restrooms
Public restrooms in the West Loop.
Chicago does not publish a public-restroom map, and the West Loop has fewer truly public restrooms than the density of the neighborhood suggests. The list below covers the verified options — Park District fieldhouses, the two Metra terminals, and the Chicago French Market hall — plus the honest caveats about cafes, CTA L stations, and the after-hours gap.

Park fieldhouses
- Union Park — 1501 W Randolph St, Chicago 60606. Restrooms are inside the fieldhouse during the park's posted open hours. Pool changing rooms add capacity during pool season.
Parks without restrooms: Skinner Park , Mary Bartelme Park , Heritage Green Park , Park No. 551 . These are smaller neighborhood / pocket parks without a fieldhouse; they have benches, paths, and lawn but no public restroom.
Park fieldhouses just outside the West Loop
- Eckhart Park — 1330 W Chicago Ave, Chicago 60622. Outside the West Loop's borders but a short walk for many addresses.
- Sheridan Park — 910 S Aberdeen St, Chicago 60607. Outside the West Loop's borders but a short walk for many addresses.
Metra terminals
- Chicago Union Station — 225 S Canal St. Public restrooms are well-signed on the Great Hall and concourse levels; hours track the building's open hours (roughly 5 AM to 1 AM daily). Union Station is the busiest restroom in the area and the most reliable after-hours option short of paying for a Metra ticket.
- Ogilvie Transportation Center — 500 W Madison St. Public restrooms inside the Metra terminal concourse; hours track Metra service.
Public market hall
- Chicago French Market — 131 N Clinton St, inside the Ogilvie ground floor. Restrooms on the lower level, open during market hours (Monday–Saturday daytime; closed Sundays). Open to the public; no purchase required. The Market shares the building with Ogilvie, so this option overlaps with the Metra terminal hours for most of the day.
What about CTA L stations?
CTA L stations do not have public restrooms — this is a system-wide policy, not a West Loop quirk. The five L stations serving the West Loop (Morgan and Ashland on the Green/Pink Lines, Clinton on the Green/Pink and Blue Lines, UIC-Halsted on the Blue Line) all lack restroom facilities.
What about cafes and restaurants?
Many West Loop coffee shops and restaurants will allow restroom use, but most expect a purchase first and many have door codes during peak hours. This site does not maintain a list of "use without buying" restrooms because the policies vary by location, change without notice, and depend on whether the place is busy when you ask. If you are a guest at one of the neighborhood hotels, the hotel lobby is always the safest option.
Frequently asked questions
- Are there public restrooms in the West Loop?
- Yes, but few. The most reliable options are inside Park District fieldhouses (Union Park has one), inside Union Station and Ogilvie Transportation Center (well-signed near the main concourses), and inside the Chicago French Market hall during open hours. Most other restrooms in the neighborhood are inside private businesses and generally require a purchase.
- Does Mary Bartelme Park have a restroom?
- No. Mary Bartelme Park has no fieldhouse and no public restroom. The nearest park fieldhouse restroom is at Union Park (1501 W Randolph), about a half-mile northwest. The nearest indoor option open to the public is the Chicago French Market (131 N Clinton) during open hours.
- Do CTA L stations have restrooms?
- No. CTA L stations within the West Loop — Morgan, Ashland (Green/Pink), Clinton (Green/Pink), Clinton (Blue), UIC-Halsted — do not have public restrooms. Restrooms are available at the Metra terminals (Union Station, Ogilvie Transportation Center), which sit one block south of the Loop Elevated.
- What about restrooms during a park event?
- Large public events in West Loop parks (Pitchfork Music Festival at Union Park, Taste of Randolph, Cinco de Miler) bring portable restrooms onto the park grounds for the duration of the event. These are temporary; outside event days, the regular park rules apply.
- Are there 24-hour public restrooms?
- No. The Park District fieldhouses follow park hours; the French Market closes evenings and Sundays; Union Station has the longest hours (early morning through late evening). For overnight needs, hotel lobbies in the Fulton Market corridor are the most likely option.
