Getting in and out of the West Loop.

The West Loop sits between the Loop and the West Side, which makes it one of the best-connected neighborhoods in Chicago. Three CTA L lines serve 10 L stations in and adjacent to the neighborhood, a dozen CTA bus routes cross it, and the two Metra commuter rail terminals — Union Station and Ogilvie — both anchor its eastern edge.

CTA L — stations & lines

The Green and Pink lines share the elevated track along Lake Street, stopping at Ashland, Morgan, and Clinton within the West Loop. The Blue Line runs in the Eisenhower median underneath the southern edge of the neighborhood, stopping at Clinton, UIC-Halsted, and Illinois Medical District. 3 lines, 10 stations in or adjacent to the West Loop.

CTA buses

A dozen CTA bus routes cross the West Loop. The neighborhood is bracketed by frequent north-south service on Halsted (the 8) and Ashland (the 9 and the X9 Ashland Express), and east-west service on Madison (the 20), Jackson (the 126), and Grand (the 65). Several downtown express routes also pass through.

Metra — commuter rail

The West Loop's eastern edge is bookended by Chicago's two busiest commuter rail terminals — Union Station (also serving Amtrak) and Ogilvie Transportation Center. Both sit roughly a block apart on Canal Street and serve different suburban lines.
