Morgan is the central CTA L stop for the Fulton Market District. The current station opened in May 2012 after years of community lobbying by the Fulton Market Merchant Association, 64 years after the original Morgan station (1893–1948) had closed for low ridership. Significant residential, restaurant, and office growth has clustered near the Lake Street branch in the years since reopening.
Morgan station was rebuilt to restore service to the area after the original 1893 station closed in 1948. The 2012 reopening followed years of community lobbying led by the Fulton Market Merchant Association.
Ridership trend. 2024 ridership is essentially even with the 2019 pre-pandemic peak — the strongest recovery among Green Line West Loop stations.
Planned changes
- No major construction announced. The neighboring Damen station, which opened August 2024 about a mile west, has shifted some westbound trips off Morgan.
