Self-storage in the West Loop, Chicago

Five self-storage buildings sit inside the West Loop, run by two operators: Extra Space at four sites — Adams, Jackson, and two separate Harrison Street buildings a block apart — and Storage Star on West Washington. Access hours are identical everywhere, 6 am to 10 pm daily, so the real differences are climate control, whether you can drive inside, and whether the building takes vehicles.

The facilities, compared

Every facility opens 6 am to 10 pm daily and every one is climate-controlled, so the table covers what actually differs. Read from each operator's own facility page.

Frequently asked questions

What are storage access hours in the West Loop?
Identical at every facility: 6 am to 10 pm, seven days a week. Office hours are narrower — roughly 9:30 am to 6 pm on weekdays, shorter on Saturdays, and closed Sunday — so if you need to speak to staff rather than just reach your unit, go on a weekday.
Which West Loop storage facilities are climate-controlled?
All of them. Every facility in this guide publishes climate control, and Storage Star on West Washington states that every single unit in its building is climate-controlled rather than just some of them.
Can I drive up to my storage unit?
At three of them, in different ways. Extra Space on West Adams is a drive-in building — you drive through the building to your unit. Extra Space at 601 W Harrison has indoor drive-up, where vehicles pull inside rather than up to an outdoor door. The North Western facility has conventional drive-up units. Storage Star, 707 W Harrison, and the Jackson Boulevard facility do not offer it.
Can I store a car or a moving truck?
Extra Space at 601 W Harrison is the one facility inside the neighborhood that publishes vehicle storage, and the Jackson Boulevard site says it can accommodate moving trucks longer than 20 feet. The 707 W Harrison building explicitly does not take vehicles.
Is River North Storage a self-storage facility?
No, despite the name. River North Storage on West Carroll is a family-owned commercial warehousing and trucking company that has operated since 1941, not a self-storage business renting units to the public. It is listed in our directory under its actual line of work.
