Ashland sits at 1601 West Lake Street, where the Lake Street branch of the Green Line and the connector to the Pink Line meet. It is the westernmost CTA L stop with a direct walk into the Fulton Market District, about ten minutes east along Lake.

One of the original Lake Street Elevated stations, dating to the 1890s; rebuilt rather than replaced.
